Urethane Casting Tolerances and Standards
With precision urethane casting services, NOBLE is your ideal partner to create precision machined prototypes and parts tolerance is down to 0.001. We can also achieve special tolerances as long as you indicate your requirements for your drawing.

Shore D 78-82
A tough Shore 80D flame retardant material that is UL Listed with a flammability rating at 1/16″ (1.6 mm).
PP-Like
Shore D 65-75
A tough and abrasion-resistant flexible urethane with polypropylene-like ductility.
Rigid Clear
Shore D 80
A versatile, Shore D 80, clear polyurethane. A matte finish will give a frosted appearance and a higher gloss will increase its transparency.
Rubber-Like Polyurethane

A Shore A elastomer with a high elongation to break.

Urethane Casting FAQs
Urethane casting involves injecting polyurethane and additive resins into soft silicone elastomer molds. While similar to injection molding, this process does not require hard, metal molds. It is ideal for short runs and low to medium volume production due to the wear rate of silicone molds.
Parts produced with urethane casting should have a minimum wall thickness of 0.040” (1mm), though walls as thin as 0.020” (0.5mm) can be achieved for some small components. Larger parts generally require thicker walls to ensure the piece’s structural integrity.
The tooling lead time for urethane molding is shorter than traditional injection molding. The lead time for an injection mold tool can range anywhere from four to 12 or more weeks, but silicone molds used in urethane casting can be ready in as few as one to two weeks, no matter the part size.
These materials are essential in creating products that are durable, comfortable, and long-lasting. Here’s the quick answer: Urethane is a single chemical compound, flexible and malleable. Polyurethane is a polymer made up of many urethane units, making it more rigid and durable.
Cast urethane molding is a relatively inexpensive manufacturing process. The lower cost is mainly due to the speed and ease of mold-making. Urethane casting is done with silicone. The material is inexpensive, easy to work with, easy to modify, and produces detailed parts.
The performance and quality of the materials are among the most important differences between 3D printing and urethane casting. Higher-performing materials that more closely resemble those used in commercial goods are available through urethane casting. Additionally, urethane cast parts frequently have better fit and finish. Urethane casting should be a serious option if you value material performance and appearance.
